Our commitment includes conducting regular risk assessments to identify and reduce potential hazards, carrying out routine safety checks on all areas of the property, including fire safety systems, electrical equipment and emergency procedures, monitoring access to the premises and ongoing training for staff in first aid, safeguarding, behaviour management and emergency response.

Competent & caring staff

We believe that the quality of care begins with the people who provide it. Our staff are carefully selected for their professionalism, compassion and commitment to supporting children with emotional and behavioural needs. Every member of our team holds the relevant qualifications and training and receives ongoing professional development to ensure they remain up to date with current legislation, therapeutic approaches and best practice.

Consistency of education

We recognise education as a vital component to the development of all children. It should suffer the least amount of disruption without any long gaps. We aim to ensure that all children placed at Dawlish House have the opportunity to redress any identified deficits in their education through the correct forum. Some of the children who come to Dawlish House will have experienced a sense of difficulty in their education. The education system may or may not have worked for them – either by exclusion or their desire to opt-out, if this occurs, staff will work closely with the young person and their educational setting in an attempt to re-engage the young person with their education.

Equal Opportunities & Anti-Discriminatory Practice

Our commitment is to provide an environment that is safe, comfortable and positive assuring that everyone will be treated with respect and dignity. We look to ensure that no resident or family member, job applicant or employee is discriminated against, either directly or indirectly on the grounds of race, gender, age, marital status, physical or learning disability, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, language, ability or current employment status.

Mental Wellbeing

At Dawlish House , supporting the mental wellbeing of every child in our care is at the heart of what we do. We recognise that children often face unique challenges, and we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment that promotes resilience, confidence and emotional growth. By creating a calm, structured environment, encouraging open communication and facilitate access to therapeutic interventions including counselling, we not only support children through immediate challenges, but we also equip them with lifelong skills for self-confidence and positive relationships.
